FOCUS assists San Diego County underprivileged, disabled and military children in need, from birth to age 21. Our Directors of Projects gather information about the needs of children, either directly or through accredited agencies, and then present proposals for aiding these children to the FOCUS Board and General Membership. We refer to these proposals as “Projects”

Mission: To create safe, stable, loving foster homes. Foster families commit to providing a home for infants and toddlers up to 5 years of age, until re-unification or adoption occurs. With each new placement, each family receives a “placement bag” with diapers, pjs, clothing, formula, bottles and other necessities.

Agency: YOUTH ASSISTANCE COALITION
Mission: Serves homeless youths, 12-24. Their outreach has been expanded during these later months of COVID-19, although their drop-in center is somewhat restricted due to social distancing. They have a plan to expand to a larger building later in 2021, which will allow more services.
Because of COVID-19, they are allowed to have only one family at a time at the TLC. They can work with families virtually, and can make in-home visits, socially distanced.
Request: Underwear for teen boys.
Amount: $ 325
Agency: JUVENILE COURT BOOK CLUB

The books are used as a springboard to talk of feelings, life challenges, etc. Volunteers are currently able to participate through ZOOM meetings.
Teachers are working with the students on the books at 3 different sites, serving approx. 75 boys and girls. Upon discharge, teens are given a book bag with 3-4 books, information on library cards and locations of libraries, and how to apply to community colleges.
Request: Books for 4 months of Book Club
