Newsletter December 2020

FOCUS Friends of Children United Society / News  / Newsletter December 2020

I wish you all a happy holiday as we near the end to the 2020 FOCUS year. While it has been challenging for sure, FOCUS continued to make a significant impact. We have been late in getting our 2021 slate of officers together, but will soon be sending you a “survey” along with profiles of volunteers for the Board. I am thrilled with those who are graciously stepping up and look forward to a great 2021.

We need volunteers to fill these two positions on 2021 FOCUS Board of Directors! They are VP, Communications (draft monthly newsletter and oversee various social media sites) and Recording/Correspondence Secretary (take board minutes and other board correspondence as needed). Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested. Additionally, we are late with our membership drive for new and renewal members.

I am working with our incoming team to allow us to capture some key stats on each member for recognition and engagement. We will be asking you for the year you joined FOCUS, your birthday, and your profession/skills. Look for this to come over the next few weeks. I can’t thank everyone enough for making the Holiday Boutique a success. We raised $4,500. Many of you have remarked about missing the wonderful holiday atmosphere of hosting it at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club. I too missed being greeted by a glass of champagne, all the homemade goodies to eat, and just seeing SO many friends from the community. Hopefully, you still had some fun shopping on-line and helping our local small businesses – stay in business! The good news is that FOCUS is ending what was a tough 2020, with a bang! FOCUS purchased a 2018 Ford cargo van for Community Christian Service Agency (CCSA), which they will use to transport donated food from local groceries to their distribution center in Clairemont. CCSA has seen the demand for food TRIPLE since the COVID pandemic hit in March 2020, and they are THRILLED to be able to use this vehicle to better serve their low-income families.

We are currently planning an “official ceremony” to pass the keys to CCSA (Mayor Bailey will be there) and all will be invited to attend (outside with facemasks). Be looking for the invite. Wishing all our members and their families, along with the many agencies we supported in 2020, a peaceful and healthy holiday season. I know we are ALL looking forward to moving forward in 2021 and for FOCUS I hope that means being able to meet (in person) soon.
